Tega Cay weighs extending Signature Waste contract, staff to present cost comparison

The Tega Cay City Council spent substantial discussion on March 16 weighing whether to extend the municipal solid waste collection agreement with Signature Waste or to place the service out to competitive bid.
City Manager Charlie Funderburk and council members reviewed the contract's renewal options, which could extend the agreement to Sept. 30, 2029 with a potential additional two-year extension to 2031. Staff noted Signature Waste's generally good performance over the past two years but also explained that rebidding the contract would require a notice of intent by April 1, 2027.
Council did not take immediate formal action. Funderburk committed to provide a sanitation-rate cost comparison from surrounding cities of similar size for council review at the next budget meeting to inform whether to extend the current contract or initiate a competitive procurement process.
