Augusta County School Board, community establish Dr. Eric W. Bond scholarship and honor retirees

The Augusta County School Board and the Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge announced the creation of a Dr. Eric W. Bond scholarship funded by annual distributions from the division's existing endowment.
A representative said Augusta County Public Schools established an endowment at the community foundation in 2002; that balance "has grown to over a $120,000." The board's endowment committee recommended using annual distributions to support scholarships for county graduates in honor of Dr. Bond. The first Dr. Eric W. Bond Scholarship recipients will be selected from the class of 2026 and students who complete the Community Foundation's scholarship application by March 3 will be considered. The Community Foundation has also created a separate fund to accept donations from community members who wish to honor Bond.
Dan Lehman, identified in the meeting as president and CEO of the Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge, said the scholarship "will truly reflect his legacy of commitment to the personal success of Augusta County's youth." Lehman noted the foundation administers the ACPS endowment fund and will manage the new scholarship fund.
Members of the public and board recognized several retiring employees and board members. Speakers praised Greg Troxell for roughly 38 years in public education and the board presented tokens of appreciation. Board member Timmy Simmons and board member Donna Wells were thanked for their service; several speakers recounted their contributions to school safety, instruction, and community connections.
Dr. Bond delivered a prepared, emotional farewell, thanking board members, central office staff, teachers, students and his family, and saying he leaves with "a full heart and immense pride in what we've accomplished together."
