VDOT plans roundabout at Wilson Post; school board to consider easement and compensation

At the December meeting, Dr. Eric W. Bond updated the Augusta County School Board on a Virginia Department of Transportation project at the Wilson Post that aims to improve traffic flow near Wilson Elementary School and the Valley Career Technical Center.
Bond said VDOT plans to add dedicated right‑turn lanes, reconfigure multiple lanes at the intersection, and construct a roundabout that will require VDOT to obtain easements across Augusta County Public Schools and Valley Career Technical Center property. He told the board the easement language and resolution are being finalized with attorneys and that the item will be on the board's January agenda for approval.
"They are going to build it," Bond said, describing the phased work: additional dedicated right‑turn lanes, an extension of lanes on Route 250, and a roundabout at the triangle that serves the high school, elementary, and vocational center. Bond said the work is tentatively scheduled to start next summer once documents and easements are signed.
Bond also reported a compensation amount for the use of school property. "Right now, it's a little over $157,000 that VDOT will be providing to Augusta County Schools when you allow them the easement for this project," he said. Bond cautioned that language was still being finalized and that details will return to the board in January.
The board did not take a vote on the easement at this meeting; the update was presented as an information item and the formal resolution and easement are expected to appear on the January agenda for board action.
