The budget survey drew about 80 responses and ranked maintenance and facilities as the top priority, followed by compensation and instructional programs, according to the presentation. Parents prioritized smaller class sizes, mental health supports and reliable transportation; employees highlighted competitive benefits, planning time and paraprofessional support for special education. Respondents also suggested potential cost-savings — shared services with the county and subscription reviews — and recommended new spending in extracurriculars, CTE/GoTech programs and accessible playground equipment.
The school-nutrition administrator reported the division’s exit conference resulted in two small findings and technical assistance items. The largest cited variance was a $68 difference in the program/nonprogram revenue calculation; summer and after-school food programs had zero findings. The administration noted a USDA commodity shipment that contained non-domestic produce (e.g., product-of-Mexico fruit) and described process changes to check commodity labels on arrival.
Board members noted the survey’s usefulness in shaping priorities and asked staff to consider the findings in the budget cycle. The findings were presented as context; no budget cuts or reallocations were authorized at the meeting.
