The Amelia County School Board elected Robin Whittington as board chair and Dr. Dave Garrity as vice chair during its organizational meeting. Board members also approved Virginia Peavey as board clerk and Monica Jackson as deputy clerk.
The board voted to continue operating under a board-written statement of values and adopted norms of interaction for the coming year. Members also approved the Virginia School Boards Association code of conduct for board members and a separate VSBA code for clerks.
Members appointed representatives to regional bodies — including the Amelia and Otterway Technical Center, the Appomattox Regional Governor’s School, CodeRVA and the Southside Regional Board — and adopted a calendar of regular meetings (second Monday at 5 p.m. unless noted) with two amendments: moving the June meeting on June 8 to a 2:00 p.m. start and setting meet-and-greet events to begin at 3:30 p.m.
The procedural votes were taken by voice and recorded in the meeting minutes. The organizational actions set officer roles and meeting structures that will guide board business through the next calendar cycle.
