Cultural Center reports strong bookings, green market dates and planned upgrades

Programs staff member Poynter told the committee the cultural center continues to see strong bookings: the ballroom is mostly reserved through February and the banquet room is booked most Saturdays through the end of the year. He said some dates opened because staff held space during rec center construction and office moves.
Poynter said recurring rentals include two churches, weekly band nights, bible studies and community groups; the CAFCI cultural community day moved to Commons this year and the Shakespeare play will be staged in Veterans Park next year with Poynter overseeing that production. He announced the green market will run Saturdays from Oct. 17 through April 24 beginning at 9 a.m.
Facility upgrades planned at the cultural center include a full kitchen cabinet and counter redo and replacement of ballroom projectors; Poynter said staff are collecting quotes to begin work. He also noted the daddy-daughter dance had about 80 attendees this past year and the MLK event drew more than 500 people.
Poynter said, "we continue to be booked solid in the ballroom," and invited questions about logistics for shifting events during rec center construction.
