Rec center expansion under way; Veterans Park splash pad and playground installations nearing completion

Parks & Recreation staff updated the Royal Palm Beach Sports & Recreation Committee on multiple capital projects, saying the rec center expansion is "off and running" with site clearing, soil compaction testing complete and foundation excavation currently under way.
Parks official Pawlowski said staff anticipate vacating the rec center in April to relocate programming while construction continues. On Veterans Park, he said the former splash pad area is about 80% complete but irrigation and landscaping remain; trellis staining, brickwork and sidewalk repairs are planned.
Pawlowski gave timelines for other work: playground equipment for the new all-access playground is expected to arrive in August with installation shortly afterward, and lighting upgrades at Bob Marcello are complete. He also said a council-approved change order accelerated LED lighting replacement at the Kent Soccer complex and that the new fixtures had arrived and installation was due to start the following week. Pawlowski noted he had "not officially heard" on the Kent Soccer Fields grant despite additional paperwork submitted recently.
On crowd management, Pawlowski estimated July 4 attendance at about "27 to 28,000 people," citing PBSO vehicle counts plus walk-ins and said staff received few formal complaints though food lines were long after the event closed.
Next steps: staff will continue construction sequencing and public-notice planning for program relocations and will report updates at future meetings.
