Commission continues shark-fishing ordinance after resident raises wording concern

At second reading, the commission continued Ordinance 2025-05 (shark fishing prohibited) to Aug. 19 after resident Joseph Manzo objected to the ordinance wording and said it could not be passed as written.
Mayor Blume opened the advertised second-reading public hearing on Ordinance 2025-05, and Attorney Lewis read the ordinance by title. Resident Joseph Manzo commented that there is a problem with the wording and that the town cannot pass the ordinance as written.
After discussion the commission voted to continue the second reading to the August 19, 2025 meeting at 6:00 p.m., allowing staff and counsel time to review language and any legal concerns raised during public comment.
Attorney Lewis conducted the statutory reading by title and the commission recorded the continuation as a procedural action; no final action on the ordinance was taken at the July 15 meeting.
