Sheriff Steve Wratchford told the Grant County Commission at its Jan. 13, 2026 meeting in Petersburg that the sheriff's office is seeking to construct a secured evidence room in the courthouse annex and discussed department budget and contract matters.
Wratchford described a plan to enclose a 7-by-8-foot space in the annex mechanical room by adding walls and a door to serve as an evidence room. He discussed the proposal with Mr. Parsons and with Commission President Tyson Riggleman during his scheduled appointment; the minutes record the sheriff's presentation but do not show a formal vote or funding decision on the project.
The sheriff provided annual call-volume figures for the commission: the sheriff's office handled 5,203 calls, the West Virginia State Police handled 893 calls, and the City of Petersburg logged 41 calls through Grant County 911 dispatch.
