"This is critical," the director said, describing the fund condition as entering "crisis mode" without intervention.
Staff described pending work including a dewatering system upgrade and industrial lift station replacement, and said the city is exploring options to meet a DEQ cooling requirement for effluent. As an interim step, staff reported receiving a hauling quote of about $0.32 per gallon to transport approximately 180,000 gallons of wastewater liquids until dewatering equipment is online.
Public works asked the committee to consider rate adjustments and contingency funding; the committee asked staff to return with more detailed cost and rate analyses to inform council decisions.
Next steps: staff will continue procurement and grant administration and prepare more detailed rate and contingency recommendations for council consideration.
