Marineland Commission asks Onyx Elite for detailed proposal for 300–500-person ecotourism fundraiser

The Town of Marineland Commission on May 21 asked Onyx Elite to submit a detailed proposal for a potential 300–500-person fundraising event intended to promote ecotourism and economic development.
Town Clerk and Comptroller Wilshem Pennick opened the discussion on events and marketing, noting the Commission is developing a formal events policy and that the town manager had renewed wedding invoices already on file. Vice Mayor Douglas “Dewey” Dew Jr. described the Onyx Elite concept as an investor- and networking-focused event designed to raise funds while showcasing Marineland’s ecotourism assets.
Commissioners discussed partnering with Flagler and St. Johns counties to support the event. Potential venues mentioned included Marineland Dolphin Adventure, the beach and the St. Augustine Amphitheater; commissioners raised concerns about parking and other logistics required for a gathering of 300 to 500 attendees. By consensus the Commission agreed it needed a detailed written proposal from Onyx Elite spelling out the event’s focus, anticipated costs and logistical plans before the Commission would move forward.
Town of Marineland Marina Manager Eric Ziecheck offered to help develop a vision for educational and ecotourism programming at the Marina, and commissioners also discussed the Flagler County Eco-Discovery Center project and the potential to collaborate with its lead. The Commission noted smaller concepts such as a Nautical Free Market with vendors, food and nautical equipment, and the possible use of the University of Florida Whitney Laboratory for some functions.
The Commission requested that the Onyx Elite proposal be circulated to commissioners upon receipt; no formal motion or vote was recorded during the workshop.
