Goessel USD 411 board hires custodian, tables vehicle purchases

The Goessel USD 411 Board of Education on Nov. 11 unanimously approved hiring Carol McDaniel as the district’s junior-high/high-school custodian and voted to table consideration of replacement-vehicle bids.

The board approved the hiring after a recommendation that McDaniel — who had been learning the job in recent weeks — be retained. Ben Schrag moved to approve the hire and Kyle Funk seconded; the motion carried 7–0.

Board members also considered multiple bids for new fleet vehicles. The transcript lists the lowest bids reported at the meeting as a 2025 4WD Suburban LS from Don Hattan for $63,757 and a 2024 4WD Tahoe LS from Eddy’s Chevrolet/Cadillac for $57,995. Ben Schrag moved and Bryant Miller seconded to table further action on the vehicle bids while additional proposals are still coming in; that motion carried 7–0.

Earlier in the meeting the board approved its consent agenda, which included prior minutes and financial reports. The check listing totaled $150,886.61 and the district’s reported credit-card usage for the period was $4,583.52. The consent-agenda motion was moved by Sara Hiebert, seconded by Paige Conquest, and recorded 7–0.

The board entered executive session at 8:27 p.m. to discuss meet-and-confer matters, non-elected personnel and matters affecting a student under the Kansas Open Meetings Act (KOMA) exception for non-elected personnel; the board returned to open session at 8:58 p.m. Several attendees temporarily left during the executive session and one returned before adjournment. The meeting adjourned at 8:58 p.m.; the next regular meeting is scheduled for Dec. 9 at 7:00 p.m.
