Henderson to join Kentucky Connections booth at ICSC; commissioners approve $5,000 contribution

Henderson Economic Development and the Henderson Chamber of Commerce briefed the Board of Commissioners on Jan. 27 about retail recruitment work and participation in International Council of Shopping Centers conferences.
Missy Vanderpool, executive director of Henderson Economic Development, and Clay Gillham, president of the Henderson Chamber of Commerce, described outreach to developers and the value of attending ICSC events to attract retail projects. Representatives from Madisonville — Mayor Kevin Cotton and Deputy City Administrator Brad Long — said their city has seen retail development success through similar partnerships and described the Kentucky Connections Initiative, a multi-city cooperative booth that will attend ICSC events. For the May 2026 ICSC conference in Las Vegas, the Kentucky Connections Initiative will include 11 participating cities and requires a $5,000 contribution from each city for booth space.
Commissioner Robert Pruitt moved, and Commissioner Kelsey Hargis seconded, a motion for the City of Henderson to contribute $5,000 toward the shared booth. The motion passed on roll call with Commissioners Hargis, Pruitt and Whitt and Mayor Staton voting Aye; Commissioner Thomas absent.
