Goessel USD 411 board elects officers, approves policy updates, meal prices and library purchases

The Goessel USD 411 Board of Education held its regular meeting on July 14, 2025. The board completed its annual organization tasks, adopting officers and appointing district officials, approved routine policy and administrative items, set school meal prices and student fees for 2025-26, and authorized purchases for the high school library.
Elections and appointments included the election of Kelly Booton as Board President and Kyle Funk as Vice President; the board also appointed Joni Smith as Board Clerk and Libby Schrag as District Treasurer. The minutes list motions and seconds for each election and record the votes as carrying 5-0 for these organizational items. (Note: the minutes list Kelly Booton as absent on the attendance line and also record her election as president; that inconsistency is noted in the audit.)
Under the consent agenda the board approved prior minutes, financial reports (cash summary, check listing, treasurer report, activity fund statements), district credit card usage, donations, and personnel updates including the hiring of Bonnie Gaeddert as cheer sponsor and resignations of Kimberli Dunne (play director) and Janene Mabrey (teacher aide). The consent agenda motion carried 5-0.
The board adopted June KASB policy updates (carried 5-0) and approved new Cardiac Emergency Response Plans (CERP) for Goessel Elementary School and the Jr./Sr. High School (carried 5-0).
The board set meal prices for 2025-26 with modest increases: example changes include breakfast for PreK–Grade 12 rising from $2.00 to $2.10, Grade 6–12 lunch from $3.30 to $3.40, and adult lunch from $4.30 to $4.40. The district indicated it will use a combination of price increases and non‑federal budget contributions to meet federal/state program requirements. The board adopted a student fee schedule that keeps many fees unchanged (examples include Book rental 6–12 $45; Band instrument rental $60; optional laptop insurance $25).
Capital purchases approved for the high school library include 28 chairs from Office Plus for $8,678.88 and 14 tables from Today's Classroom for $4,468.08; both motions carried 5-0.
The agenda listed executive sessions related to meet-and-confer negotiations, non-elected personnel including the superintendent evaluation, and matters affecting a student. The minutes do not record the contents of those executive sessions.
The meeting adjourned at 8:02 p.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Aug. 11, 2025, at 7:00 p.m.
