Brookings schools set July 15 transportation deadline; registration and physicals required before school

Dr. Summer Schulz, superintendent of Brookings School District 05-1, urged families to complete online registration and flagged key deadlines and requirements ahead of the new school year.
Schulz said the deadline to sign up for traditional in-district transportation is July 15 and that families of students who receive special services (for example, early childhood special education riders) should coordinate individually with the district because those arrangements are handled separately.
"Those numbers are so critical for us to have, just leveled class sizes and that sort of thing," Schulz said, urging parents to register returning students who have not yet completed Infinite Campus forms. She confirmed the district uses Infinite Campus and that registration links are on the district website.
She also reminded families that students in grades 7 through 12 who plan to participate in sports must have an annual physical before the first day of practice, and said the district is planning a larger welcome/registration event in early August to support English-language-learner families who need language assistance (building on a Hillcrest event held last year).
Schulz encouraged families to check the district website and complete registration early so staffing and transportation routes can be set.
