Charlemont agricultural commission to keep chair while planning outreach after 16-survey responses

The Charlemont Agricultural Commission met May 11, 2026, and recorded 16 responses to a town survey sent with February tax bills while planning outreach and internal follow-up; the panel lacked a quorum and did not approve the minutes.

Commission members reviewed the survey return and discussed next steps for using the responses to support local growers and connect with town organizations. Members listed inviting outside speakers on marketing, land use or regulation, and holding a grower potluck as possible outreach activities. The commission also noted the importance of clarifying its public-facing role and accessibility.

Nate Bellows, who the commission said will remain chair "for now," was asked to check in with Kristi from Cold River about connecting the Agricultural Commission, the local Business Association and area farms. The commission noted that Ashley Sparks has offered to serve as a link to the town-run HAY program if that connection moves forward. Members identified several follow-ups: asking Sarah for the commission's formal job description and confirming who currently serves as the town animal inspector.

Because there was no quorum, the group did not vote to approve the meeting minutes. The commission scheduled its next meeting for July 20 at 7 p.m. The meeting was called to order at 6:05 p.m. and adjourned at 7:15 p.m.
