Ravenswood council approves immediate termination of employee Kim Benson

The Ravenswood Common Council voted April 17 to terminate employee Kim Benson, ending her administrative leave and denying further pay or accrual benefits, Mayor Josh Miller said at a special meeting called at 5:00 p.m.
The action followed an executive session that the council entered at 5:03 p.m. after a motion from Councilor Todd Ritchie that was seconded by Councilor Jeff Koon and recorded as approved. The council exited executive session at 5:34 p.m. on a motion from Ritchie, seconded by Koon, also recorded as approved.
Mayor Josh Miller recommended that Kim Benson be discharged from administrative leave and terminated effective immediately, citing a violation of the City of Ravenswood Employee Handbook, Section 19.06(c)(19), described in the minutes as a Group III offense. Councilor Todd Ritchie moved to approve the mayor's recommendation; Councilor Dee Scritchfield seconded. The motion was recorded as approved by the council (minutes state "All Approved").
Attorney Steve Cogar was present for the special meeting; Recorder Jared Bloxton was listed as absent. The meeting concluded after a motion to adjourn from Councilor Eric Cullen, seconded by Jeff Koon; Mayor Miller adjourned the meeting at 5:37 p.m. The minutes indicate the termination takes effect immediately and that no further pay or accrual benefits will be provided.
