The Ravenswood City Council voted March 3 to award a contract for demolition of a dilapidated property at 226 Ray Street.
City staff told the council that the demolition has completed legal steps and is eligible for a $13,000 DLAP (state-funded) grant that will fully fund the work. Two bids were received: Empire Builders submitted the low bid at $10,000; JC Bosley Construction bid $12,477. The council approved awarding the work to Empire Builders contingent on verification of any required bid bond.
Lance (city staff) said contractors’ proposals require that the ground be leveled and the lot cleaned and reseeded. Council discussion clarified this matter is being handled through code enforcement rather than police, and counsel explained there will be no city lien because the city is not expending local funds for the demolition: "There will be no lien on this property because the funds came from a grant," counsel said, while adding the state could choose to place a lien if it desired.
City staff said completed demolition and successful use of the grant would support the city’s ability to secure additional DLAP funding for similar properties in the future.
