Council accepts FY24 audit: 'clean report' but several findings remain

The Ravenswood City Council unanimously accepted the fiscal year 2024 audit after auditor Andrew Fizer said the file carries a clean opinion despite several remaining findings.
Fizer told the council the audit produced no modified opinion and that the team reduced the number of findings from roughly 13 in the prior report to six or seven this year. He listed recurring issues including segregation of duties, late filing of required annual financial reports to the Public Service Commission, expenditures in excess of amounts in levy estimates and certain bond/covenant items tied to water and sewer rate covenants.
Fizer characterized many issues as timing problems that the city can address by clarifying internal controls, hiring or assigning staff responsibilities and submitting timely budget revisions. He also noted the city had no single‑audit findings for federal programs tested this year.
Council moved to accept the audit as presented; the motion passed by voice vote. Auditor Fizer said staff progress toward resolving findings bodes well for future audits and that the city appears to be moving toward fewer findings overall.
