Designing Local outlines illustrated design guidelines for Ravenswood historic district

Designing Local consultants Josh Lapp and Megan Adornetto told the Ravenswood City Council the firm is producing a user‑friendly, illustrated design‑guideline document to help property owners maintain historic character while allowing compatible reinvestment.
The firm, which specializes in historic preservation, said the project is at an early stage and will combine stakeholder interviews, public outreach and a digital survey to gather input; respondents will be able to find the survey at downtownravenswood.org and on the Downtown Ravenswood Partners Facebook page. Josh Lapp said the guidelines are intended to be tailored for Ravenswood and to help owners pursue state and federal historic tax credits.
Molly, director of Downtown Ravenswood Partners, told council the work is funded by a State Historic Preservation Office grant awarded specifically for design standards and planning documents for historic districts. Council members asked whether the guidelines would be incorporated into city code or referenced, and staff said those discussions will continue as the land‑use code is updated.
The consultants said the process will continue through the summer and will include draft guidelines returned to stakeholders and the council for review. Council members and staff agreed additional outreach and a publicly accessible draft will follow; no formal action was required at the presentation.
