Rolla council approves first reading of student representative ordinance; announces radar signs

The Rolla City Council passed the first reading of a City Council Student Representative Ordinance at a special meeting April 8 held at Mount Pleasant School, Mayor Kevin Juntunen said. The ordinance cleared its first reading and the council scheduled a second reading for April 15 at the regular meeting.
Mayor Juntunen used the meeting — held as part of City Government Week recognized in North Dakota — to recognize two winners of the "If I Were Mayor" essay contest: Marshal Jeannotte (3rd grade) and Aria Parslow (7th grade), who read their essays for the council and audience. The mayor praised the students and encouraged civic engagement.
During the meeting the mayor also announced that three radar speed signs are in the process of being installed in Rolla, a follow-up to a student proposal made during an earlier council meeting. Council members present voiced support for the items on the agenda; the minutes record no formal vote or funding commitment connected to the radar signs at this session.
The special meeting adjourned at 1:45 p.m. "On motion and unanimously approved the board adjourned at 1:45 PM," the minutes state.
