Byram Hills board swears in two new members, elects Scott Levy president and Mia DiPietro vice president

Byram Hills Central School District’s Board of Education opened its July organizational meeting by administering oaths of office to newly elected trustees and moving through its annual housekeeping and leadership elections.

Kelly, who administered the oaths, asked new members to stand and raise their right hands before they each recited the oath referencing the U.S. and New York constitutions. The superintendent thanked the new members and praised the board’s commitment to the district, saying “It is the role of the board to appoint a superintendent and to work with that superintendent and the superintendent’s cabinet to secure the best possible education for children.”

Chair nominated Scott Levy for board president for the 2026–27 school year; the board moved, seconded and approved the nomination by voice vote. The board also nominated Mia DiPietro for vice president; Kevin seconded that nomination and the board approved it by voice vote. Chair said Scott will be sworn in formally at the August meeting.

The board amended the agenda to add teacher probationary appointments and approved the addition. Among the personnel items approved was the appointment of Danielle Brudner as school psychologist, effective Aug. 26, 2026.

Several routine items were handled during the meeting: annual organizational appointments were adopted and the board readopted its policies. The meeting recessed briefly for an executive session at which board committee planning, employee benefits, real estate and a legal matter were discussed; the board returned and continued the organizational business before adjourning for the day.

The board said it will revisit approval of the June 2 and June 9 minutes at its August meeting because two recently sworn members were not yet seated for those earlier votes.
