Ronceverte council approves higher maximum tap fee, leaves reconnect charge unchanged

Ronceverte City Council voted unanimously Feb. 3 to approve an ordinance raising the maximum water tap fee to $950 while the reconnect fee remains $20.
City Administrator Pam Mentz told the council the proposed changes are intended to ensure the city can cover its materials and labor costs for new taps. "These increases are being proposed so that the City can cover its cost for materials and labor," Mentz said. City Recorder Leah Smith reported the proposed rates are similar to charges in other municipalities.
The council read the ordinance by title and then voted to adopt it. Leah Smith moved to approve Ordinance 2015-01; Mark Trent seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous. The ordinance as described sets $950 as the upper limit the city may charge for a tap installation, but Mentz said the city will charge the lower, actual cost if installation costs are less than that amount.
The action was taken as part of the meeting’s Old Business agenda and requires administrative implementation by city staff to apply the updated fee schedule. The council adjourned at approximately 7:24 p.m.; its next regular meeting is scheduled for March 3, 2025, at 7:00 p.m.
