Ronceverte council hears wastewater and water project updates; demolition, Armory cleanup, holiday plans reviewed

Ronceverte city officials on Nov. 4, 2024, received updates on several infrastructure and administrative matters, including progress at the wastewater treatment plant, a pending water project, demolition of dilapidated buildings and the lack of bids for Armory cleanup.
Earl Harper, director of the Wastewater Treatment Plant, said the plant is functioning as expected while the city awaits delivery of a new UV part expected in December. Harper characterized the arrival as a routine equipment update and said staff anticipate installing it when it arrives.
Bob Hazelwood of engineering firm E.L. Robinson reported that the water and stormwater project is awaiting approval of permits and that the team hopes to start construction in the spring. He said he had submitted additional funding requests to support water upgrades and does not expect to receive responses on those requests until September 2025.
The City Administrator reported that progress is being made in demolishing several dilapidated buildings in the city. The city received no bids for cleanup of the Armory and will explore other possibilities for that site.
Administrative announcements at the meeting included the Holiday Open House on Friday, Dec. 6, 2024, from 5-8 p.m., and the Christmas Parade on Monday, Dec. 2, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. The next regular council meeting is scheduled for Dec. 9, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. The meeting adjourned at approximately 7:24 p.m.
