The application requested registration at 11 a.m. with departure at noon, a temporary closure of roughly half a block of 4th Street Northwest in the area of Up North Pizza at 314 4th Street NW from about 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., and a waiver of city fees. A council member moved to defer the item to the work session, the motion was seconded, and the item was tabled following a roll-call vote.
Council member Dale Helms said he had concerns about closing a major street for five hours and asked that the council consider rerouting the event to a less-trafficked side street. Staff asked council members to raise any specific items they want addressed before the work session and said they would coordinate details with staff (Renee and others) before the next meeting.
The council did not take a final vote on permitting, fees or traffic-control plans; the item will be revisited at the scheduled work session next week.
