Jourdanton hires consultant, authorizes TPWD park grant application

The Jourdanton City Council on July 6 approved a contract with Mya Jua Solutions to provide grant-application services for a Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) Local Park Grant and adopted a resolution authorizing the submission and designating City Manager Debbie Molina as the city's authorized representative.
Sharron Brown of Mya Jua Solutions presented the program and described outreach efforts completed for the needs assessment, including community events at the library, the high school and the Fourth of July celebration. Councilmember Raul Morales moved to approve the contract; Councilmember Karen Pesek seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Councilmember Pesek later moved, seconded by Councilmember Pamela Manning, to adopt the resolution to submit the TPWD application and name the City Manager as authorized representative; that motion also passed unanimously.
Minutes note an application deadline target and administrative timeline: Mya Jua Solutions is to provide administrative and professional services and Ms. Brown’s team began community engagement in late June. The minutes record that Mya Jua Solutions will prepare the application for submission by August 1, 2026. The resolution also directs staff to proceed with required local documentation and designates the manager to sign application materials.
The council did not record grant award decisions at this meeting; separate actions to accept any award would be required if TPWD funding is offered.
