Questa board adopts student-absences policy on second reading; holds executive session on land and personnel

The Questa Independent Schools Board of Education adopted a student-absences policy and its implementing regulation on second reading at its April 7 meeting, and later convened an executive session to discuss land and personnel matters.

On the second reading, the board approved Policy Student Absences and Excuses (J-1550/JH) and the corresponding Regulation (J-1561/JH-R). Vice President Michael Cordova moved to approve the policy and Member Juan Cisneros seconded the motion; the board approved the items on a roll-call vote with President Jason Rael, Vice President Cordova, Secretary Valerie Vigil, Member Cisneros and Member Esequiel Romero each recorded as voting 'aye.' Member Cisneros separately moved to approve the regulation with language mirroring the policy; Vice President Cordova seconded and the motion passed unanimously.

Later in the evening, the board entered executive session at 7:34 p.m. to discuss the Village of Questa land agreement and possible legal matters pertaining to the Amalia property under the NM Open Meetings Act §10-15-1(H)(8), and to discuss limited personnel matters concerning the superintendent under §10-15-1(H)(2). The board exited executive session at 8:34 p.m. President Rael reported that only the topics listed in the motion were discussed and that no action was taken on items discussed in executive session.

The meeting concluded with a brief discussion of future meeting items and adjournment at 8:46 p.m.
