At the March 3, 2026 regular meeting, the Questa Independent Schools Board of Education approved several donations and staff recognitions and accepted routine administrative reports.
Member Juan Cisneros moved and Member Esequiel Romero seconded a motion to nominate six bus drivers and "Mr. Troy" for the Excellence in Student Achievement Award; the motion carried with all members voting in favor as recorded in the minutes. The minutes do not specify Mr. Troy's role beyond the honorific used in the record.
The board approved three donations from community partners: $1,720 from the LOR Foundation to support high school senior banners; a separate $9,000 gift from the LOR Foundation for mobile field learning equipment for QISD students; and a $600 donation from Kit Carson Propane earmarked for charitable programs. Each donation was approved by motion (moved by Member Cisneros, seconded by Member Romero) and recorded as carried by unanimous vote.
The board also approved administrative and department reports covering maintenance, nutrition, transportation, Alta Vista Principal/SPED and the Superintendent's report. For procurement, the board approved a pre-approval list item to purchase from Trafera (requisitions over $5,000) after a motion by Member Cisneros and second by Secretary Vigil. The minutes show no dissenting votes on these items.
Separately, the board approved the Vida Del Norte student survey presented by Maria Gonzales with a revision to the permission slip: participation must be indicated yes or no, and students will not participate if no form is returned. The survey approval passed unanimously as recorded.
