Questa Independent Schools board approves student competition trips, IDEA application and donor-funded welding equipment

At its April 7, 2026 regular meeting, the Questa Independent Schools Board of Education unanimously approved student travel to three state competitions and accepted donor funds to support career-technical equipment and charitable programs.

Vice President Michael Cordova moved to approve student participation in the State Track meet (May 7–9, 2026); Member Esequiel Romero seconded, and the motion carried with all members voting in favor. The board also approved overnight travel for the E-Sport State Competition (April 23–25, 2026) after a motion from Vice President Cordova and approval of an overnight Spanish Spelling Bee (May 1–2, 2026) following a motion from Member Juan Cisneros; both motions were seconded and passed unanimously.

President Jason Rael moved to approve the district's Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) application; Vice President Cordova seconded and the motion passed with all members recorded as voting aye. The board accepted a $9,930 donation from the LOR Foundation to purchase student welding equipment and a $150 donation from Kit Carson Propane intended to support charitable programs after separate motions were made and approved.

A proposal to reschedule the April 21, 2026 regular meeting received no action at the meeting.

The approvals were handled as part of new-business motions and recorded as unanimous votes. No requisitions over $5,000 or budget-adjustment requests were presented during the meeting, and finance reports were not given.
