Bigfork trustees approve cleaning contract, donations and personnel; principals report on programs

BIGFORK, Mont. — The Bigfork Board of Trustees met Dec. 10 in the high school library and unanimously approved a slate of routine actions, including a new cleaning contract for the high school and the consent agenda that listed donations, minutes and personnel recommendations.
Chairperson Paul Sandry called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. Trustee Carol Field moved to approve the meeting agenda, and Trustee Ben Woods seconded; the motion carried by unanimous vote of the attending trustees. Trustee Julie Kreiman then moved to approve the consent agenda; Trustee Woods seconded and the trustees approved it unanimously.
The consent agenda included approval of the Nov. 12 and Nov. 21 board minutes, all-bill approval lists and the November student activity reports. The board accepted donations of $12,421.20 from the Bigfork Booster Club earmarked for tournament meals, the soccer program and the band program, and a $1,000 donation from Endsley for the music department. Personnel items approved on the consent agenda included substitute teacher Jonathan Jenkins-Molina and substitute nurse Ben Sletvold; prom co-advisors Amber Britt and Brooklyn Little; Adina Rutherford as seventh-grade girls basketball coach; and volunteers Haley Schara, Quin Nissen and Nathan DeSpain.
Superintendent Tom Stack requested and the board approved a new high school cleaning contract with Peaks & Cellar for the remainder of the year. Stack told trustees that terms of the prior contract were not being met and that the new agreement would save money; Trustee Ben Woods moved to approve the contract and Trustee Julie Kreiman seconded. The motion passed by unanimous vote of the elementary and high school trustees.
Principals and student leaders gave brief updates. Brenda Clarke summarized elementary December events. Principal Mark Hansen discussed the Giving Tree program, WIN time, second-semester schedules and upcoming holiday concerts. Student Council representative Nic Gustavson reported on a food drive, winter-sports recognition, high-school decorations, holiday spirit week and a January blood drive; Gustavson also described shadowing a cadet at West Point. Special Education Director and Activities Director Matt Porrovecchio noted the girls soccer team received a Sportsmanship Award and that the district will have an OPI special education audit soon. Principal Charlie Appleby reviewed middle-school sports, NAPE testing, the Leadership Class and the Winter Market.
The board set future meetings for Jan. 14 and 21, Feb. 11 and 18, Mar. 11 and Apr. 8, 2026. Trustee Julie Kreiman moved to adjourn; Trustee Paul Sandry seconded and the meeting adjourned at 5:27 p.m.
