Bigfork — The Board of Trustees of Bigfork Elementary School and Bigfork High School on Oct. 8 approved a series of operational measures, rejected a proposed change to a Verizon tower agreement and denied a ninth-grade out-of-district admission request.
Superintendent Tom Stack told trustees the district’s network switches are at end of life and recommended replacing them; Trustee Mac Kirk moved to approve the network infrastructure upgrade, Trustee Deb Johnson seconded, and trustees approved the measure unanimously. The board also approved a fundraising-supported, out-of-state National History Day trip after presentations by Mrs. Wilondek and Ms. Sikon; Trustee Julie Kreiman moved the trip approval and Trustee Mac Kirk seconded the motion, which passed on a unanimous vote.
Board Chair Paul Sandry reviewed the existing Verizon tower agreement and summarized Verizon’s request to alter contract terms. After discussion, Trustee Mac Kirk moved to reject Verizon’s proposed changes, Trustee Dan Elwell seconded, and the board voted unanimously to reject the overture.
On personnel and activities, Activities Director Charlie Appleby recommended Janelle Plummer for the 8th-grade girls basketball coaching position; Trustee Ben Woods moved to approve the hire and Trustee Julie Kreiman seconded. The hiring motion was recorded as approved unanimously by the elementary trustees. The consent agenda — approved earlier in the meeting — also recorded donations to student activity accounts (Baseball $1,294.26; Swim $8,850.00; Tournament Meal Fund $1,200.00) and confirmed several personnel items, including a classified hire (Tara Clark), a substitute teacher (Shauna Greenwood), extra-curricular appointments (Elise Van Valkenburg and Richalle Close) and volunteer coaches (Amy Campbell, Nathan Mayer and Paul Henion).
Superintendent Stack asked trustees to deny admittance of a ninth-grade student under the district’s out-of-district admission policy (Board Policy 3141); Trustee Ben Woods moved to deny the request, Trustee Dan Elwell seconded, and trustees approved the denial unanimously. Stack noted the board could have called an executive session under MCA 2-3-203(3) to discuss the item.
The meeting adjourned at 5:57 p.m. according to the board record; the transcript’s adjournment line reads "District Clerk Chairperson" without a named clerk signature.
What happens next: The administration will bring any recommended revisions to the tardy policy back to the board for consideration if staff determines changes are warranted and will proceed with planned technology procurement and implementation steps reflected in the approved network upgrade.
