Laurel School District board adopts weapon-detection screening policy, approves personnel items and fundraisers

Laurel School District trustees approved a slate of routine policy and personnel actions at their December meeting, including the second reading and adoption of policy JIHC (weapon-detection screening program).
The board moved and approved the second reading of JIHC as posted on the district website. Chair called for roll-call votes and recorded approvals before moving to other agenda items.
Finance staff briefed the board on upcoming audits and deadlines. "...we've been notified of a couple more. Our local funds audit or the construction funds audit is gonna get started, and we've also been notified of a class size audit for FY22 and FY24," the finance presenter said. The presenter added that the district needs to "finalize the state reduction plan of 419,000, that's due to DOE by December 31," and that the FY25 final budget is being drafted for the January meeting.
The board also approved the first reading of the district's nondiscrimination policy and the approval of multiple fundraisers, including high school fundraisers, all by roll call. Personnel recommendations that the board discussed in executive session were approved as listed in attachments A and B.
Chair announced the next board meeting is scheduled for Jan. 15, 2025 at 7 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 7:28 p.m.
