The Laurel School District board approved a package of routine items including school fundraisers, a facility rental, a class-size waiver, two first readings of district policies and a comprehensive set of personnel recommendations that had been discussed in executive session.
On facilities and events, the board approved district fundraisers and granted a rental request from Amy Procter to host the Big Pink volleyball tournament at the Laurel Middle High School gymnasium on April 12, 2025, to raise funds for a cancer care center in Seaford. The meeting materials list the cost as $240 per team and requested use of microphones, a sound system, scoreboard and tables; a certificate of liability insurance was provided and the board approved the rental while noting facility, custodial and constable fees apply.
The board approved the 2024-25 class-size waiver that cites the transcript reference to Delaware code (transcript phrasing: "per 14 Delaware code 17 o 5 a"). The waiver relates to the statutory cap that classroom ratios in kindergarten and grades 1 through 3 should not exceed 22 students in core academic subjects; the board moved, seconded and approved the waiver by roll call.
Policy work: the board opened first reading of policy JIHC (weapon detection screening program) and of the Title IX nondiscrimination policy and notice. Both policies were presented as posted on the district website and available for review by the community.
Personnel: the board approved a long series of personnel reports and renewals (attachments labeled a through r and related attachments) that were moved, seconded and approved by roll call after the board returned from executive session. The actions were described as personnel recommendations "as discussed in executive session" without public detail on individual hires or renewals.
Next steps: policies opened for first reading remain available for community review on the district website; personnel matters are recorded in the meeting attachments and were approved as presented in executive session.
