At its Jan. 17 meeting the Long Beach Board of Aldermen approved a series of routine and procedural items.
The board authorized the mayor to execute a revised Qualls property lease once the Alexanders return a signed version. City staff said the lease was revised per Alexander and Griffin requests and the mayor may sign it contingent on their signatures.
The board ratified a contract with AGJ Systems and Networks and approved a fee waiver for the rec center for an American Legion blood drive. A budget amendment for FY25 covering police and public works was approved, and the board ratified a $3,814.30 change order for Edmond Drive water improvements to allow work to continue without delay.
On appointments, the board discussed ordinance 3‑71 (school board appointment advertising) and acknowledged that the ordinance’s newspaper publication requirement had been met but that social media and other outlets are now commonly used. The board formed a three‑member committee (board members plus counsel and staff) to draft proposed updates to advertising rules and set interviews for school‑board applicants on Jan. 28 at 5 p.m., with three applicants scheduled in 20‑minute slots.
Other departmental reports included a fire‑department commendation for a rescue during a recent fire and updates that harbor wall work continues. The board moved into an executive session on personnel and litigation and returned with no action taken, then adjourned.
