Board grants executrix 45 days to clear 260 Alexander Road

The Long Beach Board of Aldermen voted Jan. 17 to give the executrix of the Melody Brown estate 45 days to clean and repair a house at 260 Alexander Road.
Carla Powell, who identified herself as the executrix, told the board she received access to the property on Dec. 29 and has been working to remove an occupant and begin cleanup. “It’s a huge task in terms of how much trash there is, but also how much deterioration there is in the house,” Powell said, and offered to send zoning enforcement updates and before‑and‑after photos of her progress.
Board members discussed whether to give 30 or 45 days and how the city would follow up if work lagged. The mayor said staff would schedule another public hearing if the work was not complete and asked Powell to provide regular updates to zoning enforcement. After motions and a second, the board approved a 45‑day extension with no recorded opposition.
The board recorded that notice of the initial hearing was posted Dec. 27, 2024, and mailed to the Melody Brown estate. City staff said they would revisit the matter at the follow‑up hearing and that additional days could be granted if needed.
The board closed the public hearing and moved on to other agenda items. The city’s zoning enforcement officer (Dale Stogner) will receive progress photos from the executrix and monitor compliance; if the property remains noncompliant the board indicated it may take further action under city code.
