The mayor said the city expects about $540,000 remaining after closing out playground purchases.
Lawmaker (speaker 6) voted in favor but asked for caution, saying he was "not against these courts" but wanted other site work and priorities completed first. Donald voted no; the mayor called a roll call that recorded Patrick, Pete, Mike, Tim, Angie and Bernie voting aye and Donald voting nay.
Supporters said preparing a design package now would allow the city to move quickly when construction funds and schedules align; opponents cautioned against committing to further spending before other park work is complete. The motion as approved authorizes design only; if the city is not ready when plans are complete, staff may not put the project out for bid.
The board did not adopt a construction contract at the meeting; next steps include completion of the bid package by city staff and subsequent council consideration of any construction solicitations.
