Laurel School District board approves consent items, financial report and personnel recommendations

The Laurel School District Board of Education approved a slate of consent items and routine business at its meeting.
President Hitchens called for and the board approved the August 1 financial position report after a presentation from the district finance presenter (Horsey), who said the district essentially 'broke even' for FY24, noted ongoing audits and flagged expiring federal funds and upcoming application deadlines.
The board approved grouped consent items including school choice selections, 41 fundraisers, approved trips and several facility-use requests: youth basketball use of the Laurel Middle/High School gymnasium (Dec. 7–Apr. 5, Saturdays), Broad Creek Bike and Brew parking at Laurel Elementary on Sept. 21, and a request from the Laurel Police Department to use North Laurel Early Learning Academy grounds for a community "Police Night Out" event on Aug. 20 (insurance on file). Several facility fees including custodial and constable fees were waived per motions.
The board approved a 4% local salary increase for school nutrition managers, authorized the superintendent to reallocate FY25 opportunity funding between schools as needed, and approved multiple personnel recommendations listed in Attachments A through D (support staff, coaches and other personnel). All motions were moved, seconded and passed by roll call.
President Hitchens announced the next regular board meeting will be Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. in the Laurel Middle/High School cafe9. The board adjourned at 7:39 p.m.
