Board approves multiple infrastructure projects, event sponsorships and camera-NCIC MOU

In a clustered set of votes, the board approved pavement markings for Jeff Davis Avenue (estimated at $41,000), authorized subcontractors for a railroad crossing improvement project to work under Moran Hauling, and authorized advertisement to solicit bids for ARPA-funded projects in Parkwood, Briarwood, Magnolia and Dearman. The board also approved the docket of claims (O21825) and the city’s January 2025 revenue and expense report.
Event funding decisions included approval of an $8,500 sponsorship/payment for the Jeep in the Coast event after debate about overtime and city contributions. The board also granted a special-bin application and fee waiver for the Long Beach High School Band Booster Festival of Bands.
Public safety items included approval of a memorandum of understanding allowing the city’s existing camera system to query the National Crime Information Center through Genetec Cloud Services; Police Chief (functional title) told the board this MOU “only allows the camera systems we have now in the city to run NCIC,” and emphasized it will not generate citations automatically. The board approved the MOU.
Engineering staff reported the harbor east wall work is progressing and said bids for the interior retaining wall will be opened soon; the board voted to proceed with several bid solicitations and authorized staff to follow up with utilities for a separate MDOT intersection agreement (Klondike and Cleveland).
What the board directed next: staff were asked to coordinate with utility providers on the MDOT intersection work, to pursue negotiations with property owners and counsel related to drainage easements, and to return with cost and contract details as bids and negotiations proceed. The meeting recessed with the board set to reconvene March 5.
