At the July 20 meeting staff presented the economic-development report, highlighting community programs, training opportunities and regional partnerships.
Anelle said the city recognized photo-contest winners at the July 7 council meeting and displayed entries in the lobby; she noted that Raymond Chu won for a photo of an eagle in flight. Staff also recapped the June 26 Katy-area EDC economic-outlook summit attended by board members and council members, and a franchise workshop that drew more than 20 people and included FranNet and the local Small Business Development Center.
Staff described the Fit Fest sponsorship and lessons learned for timing and outreach, and said Fort Bend County's economic-development office recently added an assistant director for tourism, Andrea Howard, and is developing a countywide tourism strategy that could include marketing support for local marquee events. Staff also announced upcoming events: "Chill Out with the City" on Aug. 7 at Eagle Landing Park and Fulshear Follies on Oct. 10.
Board members had no objections and thanked staff for the report. Staff said they will continue outreach and follow up on workshop requests for evening or weekend sessions.
