Laurel School District board approves policy second readings, personnel recommendations and facility uses

The Laurel School District Board of Education on March 19 approved a series of governance items including two second-readings of district policies, multiple personnel approvals discussed in executive session, and several facility-use requests for community and summer programs.
The board approved the second reading of policy GBJC (criminal-history information) as posted on the district website. The board also approved the second reading of the district's FERPA policy (policy JRA). Both policies were presented as available for public review on the district website and at district buildings prior to the votes.
The board approved grouped fundraisers and a slate of professional trips as presented. The district also approved the use of Laurel Middle High School athletic fields by Route 1 Sports (Josh Tucker) for a youth soccer camp scheduled June 23–June 26, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; the participation fee for the camp is $175 and a certificate of liability insurance was provided. The board voted to waive custodial fees for that request.
Separately, the board approved a request from Suzanne Larger of the Western Sussex Chamber of Commerce to use the North Laurel Early Learning Academy and Laurel Elementary/Intermediate School parking lots for the Broad Creek Bash bike event and a 5K run on Aug. 16, 2025 (6:30 a.m.–3 p.m.); liability insurance was provided and the board recommended waiving facility, custodial and constable fees as recorded.
The board also approved personnel recommendations that had been discussed in executive session, recorded in attachments A through D (these included coaching and cafeteria personnel items); these motions were moved, seconded and approved by roll call. The meeting record states the personnel reports and recommendations were approved as listed in the attachments; the attachments themselves contain the specific names and positions referenced in the executive-session paperwork (not read verbatim in open session).
The board conducted a first reading of the 2025–26 school calendar and invited community input; the district asked that comments be submitted to the superintendent no later than Tuesday, April 8, 2025. The calendar posting was described as available on the district website and at district buildings for review.
The meeting concluded with a brief finance update, recognition items and a motion to adjourn. Next regular board meeting was scheduled for Wednesday, April 9 at 7:00 p.m.
