The Otsego Planning Commission on June 15 voted unanimously to recommend approval of site and building plans for construction of an accessory truck wash for R+L Carriers, subject to the seven conditions listed in the June 11 planning report.
City Planner Daniel Licht presented the staff report. Stan Richards of R+L Carriers told the commission that "the installation of the truck wash is necessary to meet Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance requirements." Commissioner Aaron Stritesky asked whether a holding tank would be required to capture grease and other pollutants; Licht answered yes, noting city code includes requirements for connecting truck washes to city systems that include grease separators.
Commissioner Laurie Jones asked whether both trucks and trailers would use the wash; Richards confirmed both would. Richards also said the wash "would not be used during periods of extreme cold" and that most use would occur between "8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m." Commissioner Stritesky moved to recommend approval of the plans; Commissioner Laurie Jones seconded and the motion passed 6-0. The planning department will forward the recommendation and the required conditions to the City Council.
