Bogue Council adopts fiscal year 2026–2027 budget, approves year-end amendment

Mayor Robert O’Chat and the Bogue Town Council adopted the town’s fiscal year 2026–2027 budget at a June 15, 2026 meeting held at Bogue Town Hall.
The council first approved a budget amendment intended to ensure the town’s accounts balance at the end of the fiscal year; Town Clerk Barbara Owens presented the amendment and Councilmember Cannon moved to approve it, with Councilmember Dale seconding. The motion carried.
The council then entered a public hearing on the FY2026–2027 budget. During the hearing, Councilmember Dale asked how property taxes are paid; Town Clerk Barbara Owens replied that they are paid monthly by direct deposit. After closing the hearing, Councilmember Dale moved to adopt the FY2026–2027 budget and Councilmember Cannon seconded. The motion carried with a recorded four-to-zero vote; Mayor Robert O’Chat stated the budget is hereby adopted by the Town of Bogue.
City finance figures provided at the meeting show total cash funds of $681,978.00. Clerk Owens reported that the town had received sales tax, property tax and vehicle tax through April and utilities franchise tax through the first quarter. The council did not identify any further adjustments to the adopted budget at the meeting.
Council members also received routine departmental updates. Mayor O’Chat said the Water Conservation/Fire District (WCFD) will install an additional sign at the town’s water source in Lake Arthur to deter unauthorized draining. He reported that paving for Chimney Branch Road is complete. Councilmembers Cannon and Parker began preliminary planning for a December Santa Flight event. The council set its next meeting for July 20, 2026, and adjourned at 6:12 p.m.
Actions recorded at the meeting were approval of a year-end budget amendment and adoption of the FY2026–2027 budget. No public commenters spoke during the hearing.
