Phillipsburg council clears car-show street closures, vendor exemption and routine business; hears public works updates

The Phillipsburg City Council on April 6 approved a series of event permissions and routine administrative items, and heard multiple operational updates from public works.
Brandon Kibbee, president of the Rod & Custom Club, asked that F Street (3rd–5th) and 4th Street (State–E) be closed on Sept. 19 for a car show, requested the courthouse dumpster be emptied before the event and asked the council to review the city’s vendor permit policy to make it easier for food trucks to attend. Councilmember Brian Shrader moved and Kenneth Craig seconded to allow the street closure; the motion passed unanimously. Council later moved and approved exempting the Rod & Custom Club from vendor licenses and to review the vendor-permit policy.
Council also approved the March 16, 2026 minutes (moved by Terry McConnell, seconded by Shrader) and approved ordinance #1055-03-26B to pay the bills (moved by Shrader, seconded by McConnell); both motions passed unanimously.
Public Works Director Trent Weinman reported operational updates: an upcoming KRWA apprenticeship interview on April 18, Jamie Senske passed a water certification, the department hired 27 of 28 lifeguards and a temporary assistant manager for the summer, the new tractor arrived and two acid pumps were ordered for the indoor and outdoor pools at $650 each. Weinman said yard carts will be delivered only on Mondays to improve efficiency.
Councilmembers noted other local items: Jerry Voorhees asked about offers for a 2019 Dodge Ram so it can be listed for sale; Brandi Spray, city clerk, noted dangerous-structure deadlines passed for three properties and Mayor Munyon asked Weinman to inspect addresses; Munyon reported the community building roof warranty claim was denied because the leak resulted from prior damage. Councilmember Lauren Weinert requested that crews paint a crosswalk at 2nd and Nebraska Streets and repair a pothole near 6th and State.
The council adjourned at 7:17 p.m. by unanimous vote.
