City utilities and public works officials updated the Phillipsburg City Council on staffing, incident cleanup and infrastructure planning at the March 2 meeting.
Kent Footh, Utilities Director, told the council the Public Works Department recently hired one employee and had one resignation; the Water/Wastewater Department also recorded a resignation. Footh said crews responded to a truck hauling wet cake that spilled material on State Street the previous Friday and the city will pursue billing the hauler for cleanup costs.
Footh reported the department is working with the Kansas Rural Water Apprenticeship program and has received information on two potential applicants. He also said he will meet on March 10 with an electrical engineer to develop specifications for a backup generator for Reservoir 104. Footh said the generator would support the water tower painting project and provide power for future outages.
Councilmember Brian Shrader presented a bid from Landmark for a new tractor priced at $95,876.16 with an extended six-year warranty; the minutes record the bid but include no motion to purchase during this meeting.
What happens next: Footh will proceed with engineering scoping for the Reservoir 104 generator and staff will pursue reimbursement from the hauler for the State Street cleanup. The Street Committee will evaluate the alley repair between 2nd and 3rd streets that Shrader flagged as being in poor condition.
