East Hampton to offer Senior Planet technology classes after licensing with OATS

Diane Patricio told the board on July 21 that East Hampton has been accepted into Senior Planet / Older Adults Technology Services (OATS) and is now licensed to offer the national Senior Planet curriculum locally.
"Our team is presently going through a five‑week training series with the Senior Planet team where we're learning the OATS curriculum methodology," Patricio said, describing a curriculum the organization uses nationwide to teach older adults digital skills, online safety and fitness programs. She noted Senior Planet is a nonprofit affiliate of AARP that maintains a library of classes and a hotline for older adults.
Patricio said local trainers will localize the curriculum, that the town received its license in June 2026, and that training will enable staff to run 10‑week series and one‑off lectures in English and Spanish. She urged residents to complete program surveys that the organization uses to measure impact and sustain funding.
Board members recommended promoting the program in the town newsletter and exploring partnerships with the IT department to help older residents navigate town online services (for example, filing for building permits or beach parking permits via the OpenGov platform).
Next steps: staff will finalize course offerings, publish participation details and share survey links; training continues before wider public launch.
