Coquille School District #8’s school board unanimously approved the district’s 2024–25 budget and several program and curriculum purchases at its June 19 regular meeting.
The board adopted Resolution No. 24‑14, approving the 2024–25 budget, and approved Resolution No. 24‑11 authorizing an intrafund transfer. Cliff Wheeler moved to approve agenda items 6.1 through 6.7, which included those resolutions as well as the CEA contract, purchases of the Imagine Learning and Frog Street curricula, adding a GED program at WLHS, and the summer project list; Marsha Frost seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
Presenters summarized key items: Tanya Sinko described the Frog Street preschool and pre‑K curriculum adoption for Lincoln School of Early Learning, the district daycare and interventionist use. The district budgeted a $15,000 commitment for Frog Street covering seven years, to be paid with Title I funds. Sinko and Tiffany Clapper also discussed replacing the Stride/Peak program with Imagine Learning after the current contract ends June 30, 2024, and noted district efforts to retain students — WLHS reported 19 students left for a GED program and the district said the only available GED testing is at Southwestern Oregon Community College (SWOCC).
Athletic Director Tony Jones presented the athletic plan, reporting a reduction in open coaching positions from 21 to 10 and introducing a new coaches handbook; the board discussed continued support for the equestrian team. Assistant Business Manager Denese Hale presented financial reports and noted contingency funds exceed one million dollars. Superintendent Wayne Gallagher delivered a State of the District update and referenced special education compliance, Community Eligibility Provision acceptance and population reporting.
On the consent agenda the board approved donations, three hires — John Dudley (junior high math teacher), Syndey Sheley (speech language pathologist) and Katherine Wright (speech language pathologist) — and accepted the resignation of Food Service Supervisor Valerie Bergstedt. Those consent items were moved by Cliff Wheeler, seconded by Marsha Frost and approved unanimously.
The board closed the budget hearing and adjourned the meeting at 7:50 p.m.
