Pleasanton tables gas-detector purchase; schedules SOGs work session

The Pleasanton City Council delayed a vote on a gas detector for the fire department and set a follow-up planning session.
Fire Chief Jeff Wisdom presented bids for a gas detector and reviewed the list of the department's wants and needs. After discussion, Councilmember Stark moved (seconded by Wills) to table the purchase to allow staff to gather more information; the motion carried unanimously. The council requested that in the interim the fire chief call for mutual aid when responding to gas leaks.
Council also scheduled a work session for Saturday, March 7, at 8:00 a.m. to complete review of the fire department's standard operating guidelines (SOGs). No purchase was authorized at the March 2 meeting.
