Phillipsburg council approves staff travel for water and sewer trainings, hears public-works updates

Utilities Director Kent Footh told the council he and Mayor Lance Munyon met with Fort Hays Technical College staff about apprenticeship classes that include plumbing, electrical, HVAC, heavy equipment and commercial driver's-license (CDL) training. Footh said the college provides vehicles for CDL instruction and noted the city's current trucks present challenges for city-hosted CDL training.
Footh reported that a concrete-replacement contractor paused work because of snow and cold weather and said there is a leak in the community building roof covered by the city's 15-year warranty; a contractor will inspect the roof. He also said the city will consider reestablishing a three-year work plan with subcommittees to prioritize projects.
The council unanimously approved staff attendance at the Kansas Rural Water Association conference (March 24-26) and an Aeromod training (March 31-April 1), with the only costs being travel and lodging. Footh also updated the council on equipment repairs: evaluating whether to upgrade a 1978 International tractor, fixing a fuel transfer pump on the 2020 trash truck, and a rear tire repair on the backhoe.
Councilmembers asked for follow-up on authorizing building-permit approvals and for staff to report back once training options and equipment-decisions are clarified.
