Pottsgrove School District presents sketch plan for Pottsgrove High School stadium renovation

Pottsgrove School District representatives on Tuesday introduced a sketch plan to the Lower Pottsgrove Township Planning Commission to renovate the stadium at Pottsgrove High School, 1301 Kauffman Road, including a new NFHS‑compliant track, synthetic turf playing surface, and several maintenance and support buildings.
"The goal is to introduce the Township to the project and get preliminary feedback," said Caroline Ryan, an engineer with K & W Associates, who presented the sketch plan and described a complete demolition and reconstruction of existing stadium facilities. Scott Kennedy, program manager with CMTA Engineering, and Kevin Godshall, architect with GKO, joined Ryan and Ron Linke, Pottsgrove School District business administrator, at the meeting.
The design shown to the commission would reverse the current arrangement of home and visitor grandstands, keep overall seating capacity on the new home side, and create a stadium aesthetic with press boxes and concessions on both sides. The project team plans to utilize space beneath the new home bleachers to house the district's Facilities Department offices and to retain and alter an existing pole barn on the visitor side. Tennis-court reconstruction was described as a separate, related project.
Caroline Ryan said the sketch plan will exceed the township's permitted impervious coverage and the proposed signage and asked for guidance on variances. "We will be exceeding the permitted impervious coverage as well as number of signs," she said. Edward Wagner, township manager, told the applicants they should expect to seek zoning variances and asked that the team's parking calculation method be shared with Township Engineer Nick Perilli for review. Perilli said, based on the preliminary materials, parking relief likely will not be required but he will review the calculations provided.
The district plans to prepare a combined Preliminary/Final Land Development submission in March for consideration at the Planning Commission's April meeting. Ryan said the team is preparing an NPDES permit submission and expects to begin infiltration testing the following week, weather permitting. Wagner advised the project team to meet with the local Conservation District before formal submission and offered to attend that meeting to assist the applicants.
No votes or formal land‑development approvals were taken. The commission's reviews at this stage were advisory; the submission in March will trigger formal engineering and zoning reviews and any required variances.
Next procedural step: the applicants intend to submit the Land Development application in March for the April Planning Commission meeting.
