Pleasanton council OKs purchase of three handheld radios for fire crew and asks for SOG updates

The Pleasanton City Council approved purchase of three Kenwood portable radios for the fire department at a cost of $2,242.59, so each firefighter would have a handheld radio.
Fire Chief Jeff Wisdom told the council the radios would ensure every firefighter has a portable communication device; the vendor quoted was KC Wireless. Councilmember Schreckhise moved to allow the fire department to purchase the radios as quoted; Councilmember Stark seconded the motion, which carried unanimously.
Council asked Chief Wisdom to update the portion of the department's standard operating guidelines (SOGs) that the council has reviewed and to provide a complete list of equipment still needed for the next meeting. Council also expressed a preference by consensus that the fire truck respond to medical calls when weather is above freezing rather than having personnel use personal vehicles, and asked Wisdom to coordinate with Public Works to fix heating at the fire station.
The purchase is intended to improve on-scene communication; the meeting did not include a broader equipment procurement plan beyond the requested equipment list for the next session.
